They usually lay eggs about 4-6 and this is the normal range and even enough to hold in one season. But their incubation period is of about 11-18 days and the main wonderful thing is that the incubation period is not limited to the female woodpecker while in day time, female woodpecker sits onto the eggs whole day whereas, the male woodpecker sits on the eggs whole night and the babies woodpecker are growing under the shadow of their both parents which increases the stamina of babies woodpecker to grow rapidly. Livelihood is not only about shelter but it talks about the food also and this place is suitable for woodpeckers livelihood also where they can easily get the insects to eat for their whole family.
Some Aspects from their shadows of trees:
They want to live in the shadow of trees because from this, they get their preys as an insects. Insects are the real food of woodpecker and their little babies and they always remain in search of food. Their muscles are so strong even when they cut the wood this activity does not weakens their body. Their beak is long, sharp and coated with bristles which make them specific for this purpose. It can be used to spear and extract wood-boring insects, as a brush for licking sap, or as a “sticky trap” for catching ants. Woodpeckers do not have true “songs,” but both sexes use sharp calls and rapid, rhythmic drumming with their bills on wood and other surfaces to attract mates and announce territorial boundaries.
Food and Habitat:
They always want to prey of adult insects, their eggs or larva because their taste makes them happier and leads them to grow faster comparatively. Woodpeckers also eat fruits, nuts and small seeds of vegetables but when they see their prey they would not allow anyone to snatch their food. In northern areas, woodpeckers prey of little ants. They want to be a part of larger trees woodpeckers because their diameter allows them to continue all their activities of life. The main advantage is that a larger tree contains all that essentials which are necessary for this lovely creature.
